U2 is an Irish rock band formed in 1976. The group consists of Bono (vocal and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboard and vocal backing), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion). Initially, the musical taste had influences in the post-punk genre, however, eventually they were incorporating more generic styles. Throughout the group's changes, they have always maintained a sound built on melodic instruments, with emphasis on the textures and chords of The Edge guitarist and Bono's expressive vocals. His lyrics, often embellished with spiritual images, focus on personal themes and socio-political concerns.
Currently, the band has released 14 studio albums, finding themselves among record-selling artists, with more than 175 million albums sold worldwide. They won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band. In 2005 the group was introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them at number 22 on the list of \"100 Greatest Artists of All Time\", ranking them as \"World's Greatest Band\". Throughout their career, as a band and as individuals, they have campaigned for human rights and philanthropic causes, such as Amnesty International, ONE Campaign, Product Red, War Child and Music Rising.
