Recorded on the 22nd April 1940 in Saginaw {a suburb of Fort Worth} TX, and released on OKeh 50679. This line-up of The Hi-Flyers showcased seven virtuoso individuals, featuring in what was unquestionably one of the very best {and often ignored} WS bands of the era. The core line-up of Buster Ferguson {lead vocal/guitar}, Andrew Schroeder {steel guitar/}, Elmer Scarborough {guitar}, Darrell Kirkpatrick {fiddle/accordion/mandolin} and Landon Beaver {piano}, was superbly complemented by Dick Reinhart {bass} and Sleepy Johnson {fiddle}. It was during these same sessions that their unequaled version of 'Roadside Rag' was recorded, among several other outstanding cuts. They were also very adept at rearranging earlier instrumentals, and giving them a very jazzy, WS overhaul. A good example of this can be heard on 'The Hi-Flyer Stomp', which is a hepped-up version of the Eddie Lang and Carl Kress hit of 1932 'Pickin' My Way'.
