An EP of 4 tracks released by Wendy Craig, star of the 60s BBC sitcom 'Not in Front of the Children,' in 1968. The four tracks are 'Not in Front of the Children' which uses the theme tune of the TV series with added lyrics, with 'Turn Around' making up the A Side. On the B Side is 'The Sound of Children' and 'When You Become A Man'. All on the theme of parenting and family.
Wendy shows a rather charming singing voice on this EP collection.
The BBC sitcom ran for four series between 1967 and 1970. It starred Wendy Craig as a rather scatter-brained middle class housewife. Her husband was a school art teacher, played by Paul Daneman in the first series, and Ronald Hines after this. They had three children, a boy in his early teens (played by Hugo Keith-Johnston) and two girls who were slightly younger (played by Roberta Tovey and Jill Riddick). Charlotte Mitchell played her friend Mary.
In later series she had a baby, and they moved from the suburbs to the country.
It is significant mainly as Wendy Craig's first role as a scatty housewife; she played similar roles in several other series over the next fifteen years including 'And Mother Makes Three' which later became 'And Mother Makes Five' and at the end of the 70s 'Butterflies'.
Unfortunately most of the TV series of Not in Front of the Children was not retained by the BBC and only 8 episodes survive; the pilot, five episodes from Series 2 and two episodes from Series 4. There was also a BBC radio adaptation of the programme broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in 1969, with Wendy Craig and Francis Matthews in the leading roles.
