The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck off northern Japan early Saturday. The earthquake hit in the morning on 1 May 2021 at 10:27 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 63 km.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Geoscience Australia which listed the quake at magnitude 6.8. The USGS and Meteorological Agency said there was no tsunami risk following the jolt, which produced strong shaking along parts of the eastern coast and was also felt in Tokyo.
