This recording brings together three pianistic masterpieces which share a stylistic unity. Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy is based on a single motive, which is transformed in its 4 movements. This 'cyclic' principle was adopted by Liszt in his Piano Sonata in B minor, in which 3 characteristic motives are the basis of a half hour structure of epic proportions and emotions. But apart from these structural resemblances, the works on this disc are also eternal masterpieces of humanity, dealing with life and death.
Young Russian Philipp Kopachevsky is one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation. His playing is of a rare maturity, understanding and imagination, his limitless technique is completely in the service of expressing his strong and original musical ideas.
