The Woodstock festival was held in Bethel, a small rural town in upstate New York from 15 August to 18 August 1969, at the height of the spread of the hippie culture, which wanted to reunite with 3 Days Of Peace And Music. He took the name from the town of Woodstock in Ulster County, known for his artistic activities (art festivals are organized) and was the last major event of the movement which has since spread also increasingly well outside the U.S., where he was born, without cohesion and originality that had allowed the sixties events like the Monterey Pop festival, the Summer of Love in San Francisco and, of course, the Woodstock festival.
