One of the most revered names in acoustic guitar, Stefan Grossman took guitar lessons for several years from Rev. Gary Davis, one of the greatest exponents of fingerstyle blues and gospel guitar playing, and started a career in the folk, country and blues revival of the 1960s while meeting and studying with guitarists such as Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Skip James and Mississippi Fred McDowell.
A renowned guitar teacher himself, Grossman recorded more than 20 studio albums and collaborated with many artists, among which John Renbourn, Duck Baker, Paul Jones and Danny Kalb.
The album Thunder On The Run, published in 1980, features the collaborations of electric slide guitarist Sam Mitchell, flute and saxophone player Tony Roberts and long-time friend Duck Baker on acoustic guitar.
This vinyl rip is aimed at capturing the warmth of the analog recording and give the best experience of this wonderful album, considered one of the peaks in Grossman's discography.
Most background hiss was removed with digital restoration techniques, the same for the clicks and pops of this very used copy belonging in my private collection.
