The British-born Shearing's role in championing Latin musicians and bringing Afro-Cuban jazz to the Middle American masses has yet to be fully acknowledged. 1954's \"Drume Negrita\" was one of Shearing's earlier Latin sides, an exotic, classy track he recorded with his working combo of the time (here including bassist Al McKibbon, drummer Bill Clark, guitarist Toots Thielemans, vibraphonist Cal Tjader and conguero Armando Peraza).
