Swedish teen melodic death/black metal band \"Amsvartner\" was formed in late 1993 by bassist Albin Johansson and his twin brother Alfred (drums), both all of 12 years old at the time; co-founding guitarist Jonathan Holmgren was only two years older.
Originally dubbed \"Awakening\", the group's line-up was complete with the additions of the twins' older brother Marcus on vocals and Daniel Nygaard on guitar, and in the autumn of 1995 they recorded their first demo. The second Amsvartner demo, \"Underneath the Thousand Years Gate\", was recorded a year later, and in 1999 the band issued their proper debut \"Trollish Mirror\". Full-length \"Dreams\" followed later that same year. According to Scandinavian mythology, \"Amsvartner\" is a name of a lake in Niflheimir near Nastrond.
