Following the Crew-Cuts chart-topping success with “Sh-Boom,” Mercury Records began assigning the group one R&B cover song after another, all arranged and conducted by the label’s music director David Carroll. Next up was “Oop-Shoop,” a top-20 hit for the Canadian quartet, originally recorded by Shirley Gunter and The Queens.
