'39 by Queen is the song I've wanted to put up here ever since I started doing these videos. It's epic in every way. Originally played on a 12-string and I've arranged it here with a capo on fret 1 so that it matches the key of the studio recording, but I don't think that's the way Brian May played it. In live performances the song is played without a capo in the key of G, and it's most likely it was also played that way in the studio and then sped up a semi-tone afterwards.
The majority of the song contains (verses and chorus) contains quite simple chords, but the intro and bridge have some crazy stuff going on (Eb#11 anyone?). The intro is the part of the song most people want to learn, and the good news is that it's not really that difficult. If you start by just getting the basic chords down before adding in all the little melodic extras then you'll likely get the hang of it quickly. It's played very smoothly. Brian May plays at least 3 acoustic guitar parts in the intro, so that's why it sounds so full on the record!
