For your Christmas listening consideration, a full length budget label Christmas gem, \"Little Drummer Boy.\" This was a typical \"cash-in\" effort with a copycat version of the Harry Simeone hit (itself a copycat rendition) with a generic choir recording of probably an earlier release.
In typical budget label fashion, this LP was reissued every few years with a different jacket. The particular version I have was issued as part of a Caroleer series on Caroleer Records (a subsidiary or holiday label of Diplomat records.) I had this record as a kid & never particularly liked it, outside of the title song, as it is comprised mostly of \"churchy\" music and there was no mention of Santa, elves, reindeer, etc. As an adult, I appreciate that many of the most beautiful carols are presented here. It ends with a resurfacing of a Perry Como sound-alike who appears on several budget holiday LPs, this time crooning \"Ave Maria.\"
I love that the artist is named \"The Abbey Choir.\" Like, which abbey? Westminister Abbey? Downton Abbey? Oh, you know, just \"The Abbey.\"
