The record was subject to a 31 month long investigation into the song's lyrics. Rumors circulated that the song's slurred lyrics were full of obscenities and graphic sexual details involving and encounter between a sailer and a young girl. Crumpled up pieces of paper were passed like notes through high schools and colleges containing what was thought to be the \"real\" lyrics of the song. Though nothing came of the investigation, Kingsmen drummer Lynn Eastman later admitted that he can be heard yelling \"F***\" at about the song's 54 second mark (1:15 on this video) after dropping his drumstick.
This is the original HIT MONO MIX released on Wand 143 when this was a HUGE hit on AM Top 40 radio stations in the fall and winter of '63-'64.
