Hailing from San Antonio, Texas and featuring the distinctive organ stylings of Augie Meyers, the group had a #13 hit (UK #15) with this up-tempo classic in 1965. Vocals were by the group’s leader and the song’s writer, Doug Sahm. The original US release was on Tribe.
“The Rains Came” was another hit on Tribe. By 1969 they were on Smash and had another big hit with “Mendocino”.
Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers later appeared in the Texas Tornados with Freddy Fender.
