Lofi Ambient on Pss580, Fostex XR3, Volca Beats, Modular, Nts1, Gen x-1
I started this yesterday as I fancied trying making something a bit more ambitious for this jam, but when I came back to it today I hated all of it so I scrubbed everything apart from the recording of the old couple. That comes from some found footage where the couple had tried to film their garden but managed to switch the camera on instead of off and then set the camera down on a window sill recording nothing but a blurry shot of their garden and their voices talking to their dogs, discussing their garden and a shed. That's a local accent and dialect to Lincolnshire where I come from by the way :)
It's 4 tracks recorded to tape on the Fostex XR3. A bit of shuffling was required because the Volca Beats and Modular sync to tape using a click on track 4 which I then record over with the Yamaha PSS580. I also had to record over the old couple talking because I'd run out of tracks, but luckily the XR3 allows tracks to be added to the mix from an external source so the DVD was played back again while the mix was captured in Reaper, phew. The Stylophone Gen X1 and Korg NTS1 were both used as effects units here. It was mixed through a the usual Inkel MX880E and reverb added from a Zoom 1201, as I tend to do for these jams.
I scribbled down the custom patches for the PSS580 so load these sounds and make these adjustments:
I think I'd describe this as lofi techno, especially lofi considering how difficult I was finding to mix with a couple of bottles of ale and a cottage pie inside me...
