This is a video of our Blue Amberol cylinder record #3707 Teddy Roosevelt giving his speech \"The Right of the People to Rule.\" Complete with all the words so you can read along with the president!
We have learned, with help from some seasoned early recording collectors, that the sound of the presidents voice is soft because it was recorded in Roosevelt's home in Oyster Bay, NY instead of at the Edison recording studio. It is not clear why he chose to record this at home. This cylinder was released in 1919.
The cylinder is being played on our Edison Standard model B phonograph with a newly rebuilt original 4 minute model H reproducer. The cylinder is in excellent condition with no spits, cracks or major scratches. Background noise is minimal.
Our phonograph is equipped with a reproduction 14\" \"witch's hat\" horn. Therefore, the recording will sound different if played on a phonograph with a larger horn.
