Hey guys! Here's my first metal cover of basically one of the best modern day video game OST's, Shovel Knight! Composed by the amazing Jake Kaufman. This theme in particular is absolutely amazing and really sets the tone for the retro experience you get while playing the game.
I knew going into this track that it wasn't going to be a walk in the park, and oh boy was it not a walk in the park... The melodies on this piece are just absolutely bonkers! The harmonies and melodies rarely repeat throughout the piece so it provided such a fun challenge in the recording and arrangement process. You can tell that Kaufman put so much love into this piece and I really wanted to re-create that.
I wanted to really jam out on this arrangement. I put a ton of TLC into the drums and rhythm guitars as well as the leads to make it sound like the most badass metal band of all time was playing this song. I spent hours particularly on the drums trying to accent every off-beat and capture 2 minutes 30 seconds of groove and feel in a track which is basically beautifully musical chaos.
Overall I am super happy with this cover, I really love this ost and this theme in particular and I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for watching!
The original \"Strike the Earth\" theme from the game \"Shovel Knight\" was composed by Jake Kaufman & Manami Matsumae.
