Track 1 from their excellent second album “Get Ready” released in 1969 copyright Rare Earth Records. The band was formed in Detroit in 1960 and after releasing an unsuccessful debut album on a different label, they were signed to a new division of Motown dedicated to producing white rock acts. At the band’s suggestion, Motown named the new label “Rare Earth Records.” Pete Rivera’s voice was one of the most powerful in rock and he was an exceptional drummer, backed by a band of equally outstanding musicians. They recorded an epic version of “The Temptations” hit “Get Ready” written by Smokey Robinson and included it as Side B of the album. A drastically shortened version of the song was released as a single the next year. Their biggest hit, it outperformed the original released four years prior and reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went Gold and was awarded Platinum status in 2000. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by Gil Bridges & Kenny Folcik and produced by Rare Earth. RIP John Persh. Featuring:
Peter Rivera – Lead vocals, drums and percussion
Rod Richards – Lead & rhythm guitars & background vocals
Kenny James – Hammond B-3 organ, electric piano & background vocals
Gil Bridges – Sax, flute & background vocals
John Persh – Bass, trombone & background vocals
You, the people of this land, you've got to try to understand
Open up your mind and soul, let your heart be your goal
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
You see, I do want to be a part of you and a part of me
That's the means to equality, that's the real magic key
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
In this land, there has to be enough room for you and me
To laugh and talk, to understand, to give each other a helpin' hand
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-woo-doo-doo-doo, doo-woo-doo-doo-doo
