An upload of the 1996 hip-hop record Hell on Earth by the legendary duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy and Havoc truly outdid themselves on this ominious headbreakin' classic. Both MC's showed their extensive lyrical powers and vivid story telling abilities which is backed up with Havoc's senister production throughout the album. Sampling elements of classical piano riffs, orchestra and opera the listening experience becomes dark but also moody as the ambiente minimal production hits you with the nastiest kicks and snares you will ever hear in your life.
This album is in my personal favourite records of all time and recently I have been listening to it so much that I was started to crave for an instrumental only experience. To my suprise, every single track from Hell On Earth has had its instrumental released somehow throughout the years, be in via promotional, test or any other vinyl pressing.
Alongside the traditional tracks of the album, I included a bunch of extra's, most of which are unreleased scrapped songs from the Hell On Earth sessions.
In The Long Run was a track which you could only play if you had the enhanced cd copy of the album, unlocking it on LOUD's website after inserting the disc in your pc. A super cool concept, but most likely too early for its time as a lot of people do not seem to know about that killer track. I used audio from this for the skits in the bonus tracks Feel free to read more about that here: https://www.hiphopnostalgia.com/2018/11/mobb-deep-hell-on-earth-press-release.html
In 2006 the Pre-Hell EP was released, also including In The Long Run, which featured a bunch more songs that did not make the HoE cut. An interesting one here is Young Luv, which is the record that featured a Prince sample which couldn't get cleared. Personally I feel like the instrumental for it doesn't really fit in with the rest though.
Next are a bunch of other bonus tracks. World War III and Snitched are both also tracks from the Hell On Earth sessions which didn't make the cut. Snitched got that tight Beethoven sample flip. The Hours After G.O.D. Pt. III also known as the Nighttime version was included on the 12'' single release.
Then we got the track with Nas, which is from his acclaimed It Was Written record. Originally this track was meant for Hell On Earth but Nas bought it from the Mobb for this album which is why I included it here. Lastly there are two tracks which Mobb Deep made for some soundtracks around the same timeframe, Rare Species and Back At You. I decided to end it on Back At You as I believe it to be a great balancing point between the production style of Hell On Earth and later that on Murda Muzik.
For the cover I used the photo of a promotional poster shot by the legend himself, Chi Modu. Check out more of him right here: https://www.chimodu.com/
