Xalam is a Senegalese band that mixes Jazz Fusion and western instrumentation with traditional African percussion and rhythms. They have been active since the late 60's and are still performing. I listened to some of their later albums and they really try to put a more radio friendly R&B sound with commercial production techniques but it wasn't my thing. This sound however is really special, really good Jazz Fusion with Funk/African overtones, you can also feel a tumbao salsa feel on several of their songs. This is a live cut from a Festival Horizonte in Berlin, 1979.
