Playing Next: Ernie - Turtle Neck Sweater
Random Page  /  Random Song

Sound Off (The Duckworth Chant) (Duckworth) by Vaughn Monroe & his Orchestra, vocal by Vaughn Monroe and the Chorus

This call-and-response military cadence should be familiar to many or most of those who spent some time in marching formation during their service years. Known as the “Duckworth Chant,” the basic lyric was credited to 1940s-era African American U.S. Army Private Willie Duckworth and made famous via this top-5 charted adaptation by Vaughn Monroe. See also Monroe’s 1951 hits “Old Soldiers Never Die” and “On Top Of Old Smoky.”

THE 1951 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1951 (some were recorded in 1950).
