This song gets me feeling some kind of way, and its definitely not melancholy! Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of Mining Melancholy from Donkey Kong Country.
I believe that video game music is a hugely important part of many of our lives. To pay tribute to these fantastic compositions and their composers, I arrange their compositions in various jazz styles! I release video game jazz arrangements on this channel every other Saturday at 12:30 PM EST!
Its been FAR too long since Ive tackled one of the legendary songs from David Wises Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack. Stickerbrush (Stickerbush????) Symphony has always been a fan favorite, but Ive particularly enjoyed Mining Melancholy as well, mainly due to its awesome yet simple melody. I havent played DKC2 unfortunately, but Im a big fan of the first iteration in the series. Their soundtracks are pretty similar, and are equally great! This song is very typical of Wisends compositional style, as evident throughout the soundtracks of both of these games.
My goal with arranging this song was to preserve the harmonic simplicity of the song, and focus on groove! I actually purchased a cowbell just for this song, and I think it adds a lot to the auxiliary percussion groove, which is so pivotal to the tune! There were plenty of times where I was mixing this song where I just got up from my desk and started dancing, which is a great sign that the groove is still going strong! I took a very layered approach to this song, incorporating a lot of different types of sounds, such as a overdriven rhodes sound with a lot of reverb, organ, muted guitar, and low piano doubling bass (which is one of my favorite sounds). The end result came out sounding a lot like something from Snarky Puppys Culcha Vulcha, which I guess is typical of my channel by now! Im personally quite happy with how this one came out, and I hope you guys are as well. More Donkey Kong Country to come!
