American Breed – “Always You” (Acta) 1969

Playing Next: Kabaka Pyramid feat. Chronixx - Ghetto Blues (The Lyricist Mixtape) November 2014
Random Page  /  Random Song

Written by Roger Nichols and Tony Asher. Produced by Bill Traut.

From the 1968 album, “Lonely Dide Of The City”

The 4th album from Chicago’s American Breed (who had a #5 hit with Bend Me Shape Me” earlier in the year) did not chart, nor did any of the singles released from it. Nonetheless it featured some good songs from recognized writers such as Roger Nichols, Tony Asher, Vini Poncia, Pete Anders and Paul Williams.

“Always You” had appeared on 45 from Linda Ball (Jerden) and the Sundowners (Decca). Tony Asher was Brian Wilson’s writing partner in the mid-60s. Together they penned most of the tracks on “Pet Sounds”. As well as being a composer – the Carpenters’ “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days And Mondays” were but two of his – Roger Nichols was an artist in his own right. His album, “Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends” is highly prized by sunshine/soft pop collectors.
