The stones slowly come alive and tell their story: Once there lived two young men on Jakab Hill. They got bored with living alone, so they decided to find wives for themselves. There was a festivity one night, they went, and surely enough both of them liked the same girl. One of them danced with her, and the other danced with her too, and in the end the two men got into a fight. From then on they had never lived in piece, though they both got married.
Time went by, and both couples had a girl child. The girls happily played with each other, but their parents always separated them. When they got older a beggar came into town, and he dropped in both houses begging. The two angry fathers expelled him, but the girls sneaked out in secret, feeling sorry for the miserable man. When the two fathers saw this, they got furious, and they badly knocked the ragged man about. The man then cursed them: “You turn into stone when you are the happiest!”. The day of the wedding ceremony arrived and both families set the same day for the event. The two bridal processions started, one going uphill, the other already coming downhill. They met halfway, got into a quarrel and started a fight: “We would rather turn into stone, but we will not keep out of the way!” – they cried, and the beggar’s curse came true on them. The heap of stones still stands there on Jakab Hill.
