Hailing from Los Angeles, French Vanilla play energetic, groovy Post-Punk, fronted by a powerful and attention-grabbing singer and given extra spice by a playful saxaphonist. 'How Am I Not Myself?' is one angst-ridden banger after another, with the absolutely beefy bass and drums laying a perfect foundation for sax flourishes, jangly guitars and Sally Spitz's vocals to build a gleaming, tense, quirky monument to social awkwardness and personal termoil from. Finishing at around 30 minutes, this is an album that wastes no time and doesn't overstay its welcome, but packs plenty of punch into the time it takes.
