Playing Next: Simon Pyke - Universal Everything & You
Random Page  /  Random Song

Written by David Gates and Stu Phillips. Produced and arranged by Jack Pleis.

From Match’s 1969 album, “A New Light”

From the softer end of the sunshine pop genre, the Match released this breezy harmony filled album in 1969. They chose tracks from a variety of then contemporary writers, such as David Gates, Paul Simon, Bacharach-David, Jim Web and Roger Nichols. This David Gates-Stu Phillips penned track was also recorded by Dino Desi and Billy and featured in the surfing movie, “Follow Me” The clip shown in this video is from the Moroccan segment of that film.

David Gates was involved in a number of projects in 1969 – as he had been since the early 60s. His biggest success was launching Bread, whose first album, “Bread” was released in January 1969. It reached #127 on the US album chart. Bread’s #1 charting single, “Make It With You” followed in 1970.
