GROTESQUE FORMS. There's some history on the back of Kiss' sophomore effort, released the same year as their eponymous bow, 1974. The \"Hotter Than Hell\" photo shoot is one of the few times bassist Gene Simmons has seen frontman Paul Stanley \"blitzed.\" Stanley was so sideways he had to be locked in his car. Some of Ace Frehley's makeup had to be airbrushed onto the cover photos later, because the guitarist's face was recovering from damage incurred during a drunken, high-speed auto accident in the Hollywood Hills. Photographer Norman Seeff orchestrated a debauched swirl of booze, garish set pieces and wanton models for \"Hotter than Hell.\" Drummer Peter Criss appears to have just received oral endearment from an \"Eyes Wide Shut\" enthusiast. Stanley cavorts with a silver chick. And Simmons is just being Simmons, spitting fire and stuff.
