I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover (Woods-Dixon) by Art Mooney & his Orchestra, vocal by the Ensemble
This 1927 oldie was resurrected in a big way, thanks to a late-1947 Mummers style recording by the Uptown String Band on the small Krantz label--later picked up for distribution by Mercury. When the Uptown disc began to create some excitement, competing versions were quickly recorded by all of the major labels prior to the end of the year (and the beginning of the 1948 ‘recording ban’). This one by Art Mooney was first out of the gate and spent a month at #1, with the Russ Morgan, Three Suns, and Uptown discs also selling moderately well (and included in this post). Mooney’s other 1948 hits “Baby Face” and “Bluebird Of Happiness” are included in this collection.
