You’ll Never Walk Alone (Rodgers-Hammerstein II) by Roy Hamilton
Among the most-performed of all Rogers & Hammerstein songs, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was introduced in the musical “Carousel” in 1945 and was recorded by various artists at the time. In 1954, this Roy Hamilton version (the first important hit record on the new Epic label) reached #1 on the R&B charts while also crossing over to the pop side.
This recording was said to have influenced various future performers of the song. Elvis was among the many who waxed the tune in later years; and it’s possible that he owned the Epic single, as he included Hamilton’s flipside “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry Over You” in his landmark 1956 debut LP.
