This composition was realized with computer equipments of the Centre for the Arts at Simon Fraser University. The composer used the PODX system for sound synthesis and composition with the DMX-1000 Digital Signal Processor. The sound synthesis technique adopted was the Frequency Modulation as developed by John Chowning.

Solar Ellipse received its premiere at the 1985 International Festival of Electroacustic Music in Bourges, France.
