The Girl From Ipanema (Jobim-deMoraes-Gimbel) by Getz/Gilberto, vocal by Astrud Gilberto, produced by Creed Taylor
This worldwide bossa nova hit which won the Grammy award for Record Of The Year originated on the best-selling Grammy Album Of The Year “Getz/Gilberto.“ The LP featured American jazz great Stan Getz, Brazilian vocalist-guitarist Joao Gilberto, and Brazilian composer-pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim.
The 5:20 album track of “The Girl From Ipanema” begins with a chorus in Portuguese sung by Joao, followed by the English lyric performed by his wife Astrud, who had not sung professionally until then. Except for Joao’s humming during the opening, the sub-three-minute single-release version featured only Astrud’s voice.
