Suchmos was formed in January 2013. They were inspired by acid jazz, hip hop and other black music. All members hail from Kanagawa, and YONCE (vo.) was born and raised in Chigasaki, Shonan. Chigasaki, represent! They have been active primarily in Tokyo and the Shonan area of Kanagawa.
The name Suchmos is derived from Louis Armstrong's nickname \"Satchmo,\" often cited as the father of scat, in hopes that they themselves would become a pioneer. They are a 6-piece group comprised of YONCE (vo.), HSU (ba.), OK (dr.), TAIKING (gt), KCEE (dj) and TAIHEI (key), all of whom are kindred spirits that share the same grooves and vibes.
Integrating influences of rock, soul, jazz and hiphop into their music, their cool, modern and technical musicianship has earned them broad support.
