A sax cover story of Endless Space 2 Across the Drift, dedicated to the Riftborn, who are here, and not ready to chill for #SoundoleChillOut2018
What I love about Endless Space 2 as a 4X game is that Amplitude Studios makes a series of gameplay elements, and then is unafraid to develop truly alien species that fundamentally break those elements. Most species in the Endless Space universe rely upon food, industry, dust, and science (FIDS). They tend to prefer lush planets and can only colonize harsh terrain like gas giants with advanced technology.
But enter the Riftborn from across the drift. These beings are mathematics who have clothed themselves in shells to escape a plague that threatens to destroy their dimension. As such, they find the material world grossly foreign. They do not use food at all, and to the contrary, must construct additional shells to increase their population. They thrive on barren and harsh terrains, and cringe at the lush planets that other species would find paradisiacal.
