Mukah Kaul Festival 2014 which was inaugurated by the Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem, the Chief Minister Sarawak on 26 April 2014 at Taman Kala Dana, Mukah.Kaul is a traditional festival celebrated by the Melanau living along the coast of Sarawak. In the past, Kaul was seen as a religious ceremony to appease the spirits of the sea, land, forests and farms that make the most important festival in the Melanau Pagan.
It is a ritual of purification and thanksgiving and blessing to acquire one of peace and good fortune in their daily life. It is held at the beginning of the Melanau Pagan calendar that marks the monsoon season has passed that affect their lives as farmers and fishermen.
Pesta Kaul became the largest field Melanau community picnic. The festival serves a manifestation of the Melanau cultural treasures in terms of clothing, crafts, food, games and dance. Now the response is accompanied by all walks of life from various people, especially to see and participate in a variety of traditional games such as Tibow, exhibition and sale of local exotic foods like Tebaloi, Si'et, sago and Umai cultural performances, crafts and more interesting is the process of consolidation keakrabaan that trace the various ethnic, religious and community picnics speech at the ceremony.
