No melons were harmed in the making of this video. Actually I ate one. Does that count? Insaneintherainmusics jazz cover / remix of Korok Forest from Zelda Breath of the Wild.
Thanks to Jeremy for playing Trumpet again! Check out his website: jeremyalvarezmusic.com
I believe that video game music is a hugely important part of many of our lives. To pay tribute to these fantastic compositions and their composers, I arrange their compositions in various jazz styles! I release video game jazz arrangements on this channel every other Saturday at 12:30 PM EST!

So this was a crazy idea! The idea to mash these two songs together stemmed from listening to a song called Cant We Elope from the Yellowjackets album A Rise in the Road. That particular track is an homage to Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock - it has a very similar A section, has the same groove, and a very similar piano vamp! I thought Id offer my take on this classic standard, but in a different, video-gamed themed way. I was playing this song together with Sab Irene on the piano, and I realized that this song sounded very very similar to Cantaloupe Island (at least the first 8 bars). After a little fiddling with the chord progression, this was born!
This is also one of the first times Ive incorporate a little skit into one of my videos! I had the crazy idea to film myself going to buy a cantaloupe (because of Cantaloupe Island) and doing strange things with it and I did. The end result is a bit strange and quirky, in my opinion, but hey, Im proud of it, and its definitely true to who I am as a person! As much as I love writing arrangements and making music, I also love puns and being goofy, so I thought itd be fitting to include. Not sure if Ill do anything quite like that in the future but its an idea.
Ive been reading a book called Zen and the Art of Mixing recently which I picked up at the Berklee bookstore on a whim. Im not completely done reading through the book, but Im about 100 pages in, and one of the things that Ive learned and acted upon was thinking of the mix as a way to push the attention of the listener towards certain elements of the song. I applied some of that advice by panning out the trumpet and saxophone parts way farther out than I normally would (theyre about 80% left and right, respectively!), as well as using fairly aggressive automation to keep certain elements of the mix in focus when they matter the most (during solos, etc.) As such, Im really happy with how this mix came out! My hope is that the things Ive done make listening to the song to be a pleasant experience for you :)
