Man, what a game Celeste is. I picked it up on a whim on the Switch after hearing so many great things about it on the Internet, and it definitely did not disappoint! Its not just a good platformer; its a great game with a very developed story, great music, and clear thematic development. When I play good games I write arrangements of the music!
Lena Raines soundtrack here is phenomenal. I love Indie game soundtracks because they often have a good amount of motivic development across sounds, which is so important to tie the game world together. I used some of the motives from the games main motive as background figures in this arrangement just to add my own contribution! The game also features remixes of Lenas tracks in their respective levels B-side, which is where the original track for this particular song comes from! Its 2-Mellos remix of Mirror Temple.
Regarding my arrangement choices, I went for something that was a bit more Snarky Puppy Sylva-esque, mixing the normal jazz quintet up with some strings and even a vibraphone to double the piano parts! Jeremy, my trumpet collaborator, thought it would be a great idea to use his mute for the opening solo, which turned out really nicely. Doug did a great job, as he always does on the channel by adding some expertly-played vibes and a sick solo! This track came together very nicely, and I hope you all enjoy!
