Then five years later, I've decided to create my biggest album of all time - a progressive rock opera tributing UNDERTALE and completely reworking 24 tracks from the game. Once Upon a Time is extremely special, both because it's a little bit of a remake and the very first song of the project! I pitched this track in a very similar, albeit simpler form, as an example of the idea I had in mind for this album and told Materia where I wanted things to go. Bring in a touch of progressive rock, modern groove metal, symphonic elements and a dash of Sitar and Tabla too; most importantly, I couldn't do it alone. For a beautiful outtro that would lead into the rest of the album, I'm lucky to have composer and fellow prog-lover Nabeel Ansari orchestrating a rich transition to the rest of the album.
While I know the biggest track of the album is coming next, I adore overtures in musicals and concept albums for being able to sneak a lot of elements of the album into one introduction! It's a great start for those of you who haven't played the original, since I think musically it represents a lot of what you hear in the next 23 tracks. I know a lot of people have heard these songs and respective covers a lot, but I promise the entire year has been dedicated to put more originality and magic into these tracks than I've ever done.
