A late Horatio Nicholls composition and a later Al Bowlly recording. It's not often I share a record after 1935 but this 1938 recording deserves a re-upload from my original 2009 gramophone You tube video.
It would seem Horatio Nicholls was inspired by \"The Lambeth Walk\" and decided upon a northern interpretation. He appreciated Blackpool so much that he moved to the famous resort on the Lancashire coast.
At this time Blackpool was the most popular holiday destination in the north of England and some might advise one of the most visited resorts in the whole of Britain.
To help recapture the authentic period feel, this video features film akin to the era of the recording. I'm fortunate to have the sheet music which also includes the intricate dance steps.
This is the original recording, with the label shown to confirm.
No song of Blackpool would be complete without featuring the famous Blackpool Tower.
Here they all are to present a flavour of Blackpool in its 1930s heyday.
Vocal chorus by Al Bowlly.
Recorded 1st July 1938.
