\"Ancient songs of exile, love, courtship, marriage, epic deed, lullabies, religious hymns, dances and rhapsodies. The rich poetical and musical heritage of the Albanian people, one of the oldest and most distressed of the Mediterranean, close to Italy and for centuries a part of her history, almost forgotten, were it not for the dramatic events of recent years.
The concert presents a selection of significant songs from a tradition of great wealth and variety despite the size of the country.
Alongside these we find the «Arbëresh», that is the fifty historical Albanian communities present for centuries in various areas of southern Italy who have preserved the language, customs, festivities, religious rites of their fathers.
Their songs reflect the solitude of a minority, speak of separation and Diaspora, a summa of personal and collective memory, history and myth, tale and fable.
What emerges is a historical, poetical and musical panorama of rare beauty and emotion, made of a unique mingling of Byzantine modes, popular Balkanic cadences and the musical tradition of southern Italy.
\"Over the past twenty years Silvana Licursi has made a name for herself in the field of traditional music and is known and appreciated as a researcher and passionate performer. She has held concerts in many Italian cities (from Turin to Milan, Trent, Trieste, Piacenza, from Rome to Naples, Cosenza, Palermo etc.) as well as abroad (Frankfurt, Cologne, Addis Abeba, Athens, Argirocastro, Seville, Tirana, and so on).
She has taken part in a number of important international festivals like the Turin Folk Festival, the Cologne Blues Mediterran venue, the European Meeting at Cecina, the Notti di Giufà at Noto, the Gibellina Festival devoted to Mediterranean voices.
She has recorded two CD's, one of which, Far from the Land of Eagles , produced by DAVID PETROSINO, was issued in the United States on LYRICHORD Records label and is available on the international market.
Her style, which deliberately takes its distance from so-called folkloristic modes, though true to the spirit of the origins, is refined in its interpretation, so much so that some critics have compared it to the Lied. \" - http://www.tides.it/www.petrosino.biz/production/licursi.htm
