PNH Intercontinental Corporation - \"Foolish Whams & Bams\" (2010)

This is an audio transfer of a VHS cassette purchased at a $1.00 store outside of New York City sometime in the early 2000's. What we have here is an unbelievably low-quality, who-knows-how-many-generations bootlegged compilation of so-called sports \"bloopers.\" In reality, most of these are not bloopers at all, but just selections of bland and routine moments from sporting events, such as basketball slam-dunks, uneventful clips of wrestling and boxing matches, bucking rodeo broncos, etc, all set to exciting and upbeat almost-porn music.

Take a gander at the cover.

Ha ha! Now that's what I call a real blooper! The best part is that this horrible and tragic jet disaster appears nowhere in the video; in fact there is no airplane or airshow footage of any kind. Nice and confusing.

This amazing video is clearly the work of one guy in his basement, compiling footage from whatever various sources he happened to have on hand, (mostly taped from television broadcasts) with hilariously little regard for continuity or artistry: You can actually see the on-screen menu of the VCR used to bootleg the source material. The result is 25 inexplicable minutes without narration and virtually quality-free. Some of the footage is laughably out of place - for instance, amongst a montage of auto racing is a black and white clip, obviously lifted from a movie, of a 1940's roadster driving over a cliff and smashing into the gully below. What a hilarious sports blooper! Other anomalies here not usually considered bloopers include clips of motocross racing (no crashes, just sweet jumps), car chases obviously lifted from movies, a daredevil driving a bus through a hoop of fire, excerpts of monster truck and funny-car rallies, and, my favorite, 15 seconds of a tricycle derby.

What little enjoyment the sports fan MIGHT be able to get from the original material has been completely ruined. These are mostly sports broadcasts from the 1970's, mediocre quality to begin with, that have been transferred and re-transferred on VHS countless times until the video quality is so poor that it is literally impossible to see the ball. Certain clips of the bicycling are actually so washed out that the background is completely white, and the cyclists appear as abstract blobs hovering around the screen.

And the audio quality has suffered just as delightfully.

I thought it best to document the soundtrack and release it as a music album. I have no idea what the origin of any of these tracks is - no music credits are provided. They could be stock music, originals, or simply stolen outright. I also don't know if they were a part of the original compilation or added by the bootlegger. All of these unknowns make this collection all the more interesting, I think. Most of the tracks change abruptly, when the video moves on to a different sport - absolutely no segue - and all the music peaks and clips outrageously, backed with a nice, steady VHS hum underneath. Wonderful.

The fact that a product this unprofessional and useless was somehow marketed and sold absolutely warms my heart. I hope these jamming bloopers tunes get you pumped up.
