Texas rapper Pro Zay’s inimitable raspy vocals and Australian
producer Timepiece’s crackly, curated production converge on a new collaborative album, Alley Muzik. Inspired in part by the seedier side of vintage cult entertainment and a maze of vinyl, movie and tv sampling, the project casts the duo as two characters in a series of gritty sonic and visual stories. “It’s two grimy cats in tha gutta plotting dirty moves,” Pro Zay says of Alley Muzik, which is the first full-length collaboration for the two. The rapper has worked with Camouflage Monk, Estee Nack and Sadhugold, among others.
Timepiece -- who has worked with hip-hop pioneer Craig G as well as underground icon Exile -- utilized his 20 years of experience as a producer to elevate Pro Zay’s signature Jadakiss-esquetone to a new plane. The two previously collaborated on Pro-Zay’s “BLACK RESI GLOVES” from the rapper’s album FOIL. The 25-year-old rapper has released six projects in 2020 alone, while Alley Muzik represents Timepiece’s first full-length release. Also featuring rappers Lord Juco, Scvtterbrvin, Killy Shoot and Tony Tone, Alley Muzik includes a remix from venerated New Jersey producer The Custodian of Records.
