Charles Austin had a big hit with his character Parker, P.C., in 1910 and in a number of later discs. Here he offers a non-Parker song. It's \"I'm much better looking than my old girl\"... set to a piece of music called \"The Gorilla\"! Presumably audiences of the time would have spotted this and the irony of the title. Thanks to Adam Ramet for spotting this. Although Austin doesn't sing, the music tracks his words so this is a song, even if the words are a series of different ideas rather than a verse-chorus repeat. It's more a series of gags like a stand-up comedian, but put together in the form of a London Music Hall song.
Recorded in London, August 1911. Originally released on Edison Bell's \"Bell Disc\" 314, this is a slightly later pressing as \"Winner\" 2633, the label introduced in 1912.
Transferred from an original disc in my own collection.
