\"['INVITATION TO TANGO'

Roland Palette and his Multi-Moods Orchestra

There used to be an old saw in the music business that one type of tune you couldn't sell the public was a tango. Then along came Pearl Bailey with a recording of 'It Takes Two To Tango,' and the tango swept the music business, and the expression 'It Takes Two To Tango' became part of the American language. There were of course tango hits prior to Miss Bailey's record (and there have been since), in fact tango melodies form part of the rich fabric of American pop music with a Latin flavor.

Tango rhythms have long been popular in the United States, although the dance itself had only a limited vogue in ballrooms. This may be because the amount of room required to dance the tango is too fullsome for small North American dance floors. It may also be due to the sensous nature of the dance itself, a bit too exotic perhaps for the inhibited North American male. When performed by professionals it is a graceful dance, full of gliding and sweeping motions that befit its Latin (Argentina) origin.

Whether you can dance the tango or not, you can enjoy the music on this recording, played in lovely fashion by the multi-stringed Roland Palette Orchestra. The arrangements ring with the full flavor of the authentic tango, with the insinuation 4/4 rhythm that immediately identifies the South American dance. The tunes include such familiar melodies as 'My Prayer,' 'Adios Muchachos,' 'La Cumparsita,' 'Jealousy,' and 'The Isle Of Capri.' Roland Palette and his Orchestra offer you an Invitation To Tango, and it doesn't matter if your tango is a bit rusty. Why not try it -- it might be fun.

This original longplay record album was pressed and released as MPZ-1005 by Palette Records Corp. in 1960, and will forever be part of my personal collection. I ripped its contents for my enjoyment and created this video hoping to share it with others who appreciate hard-to-find and obscure music. Should the current copyright holders require its removal from this site I will comply.
