A journey to Mandalay may stir memories of a poem by Kipling and a Peter Dawson recording. However, this is an updated 1920s alternative version composed by Joseph Gilbert.
The only recorded British dance band rendition which is rather a pity but at least we can hear what is possibly the only recording of this upbeat song.
The \"Star\" Syncopators were directed by \"Wag\" Abbey (but is bound to feature Nat Star with his surname being so pronounced), issued dozens of titles on the attractive Actuelle label and its subsidiary issues, between May 1924 to April 1926.
The Forbes-Rust book credits the vocalist as Fred Douglas but it's not him. Having listened to some of his solo recordings, I believe the vocalist is Jack Charman. He appears as vocalist on the majority of The \"Star\" Syncopators sides and also with Victor Sterling's band.
Recorded March 1925.
