เอซิด แจ๊ส (Acid Jazz) คือการผสมผสานดนตรีที่ประกอบด้วย แนวดนตรีของ แจ๊ส, ฟังค์ ฮิพ-ฮ็อพ และบางครั้งก็มี แร็พ เป็นส่วนผสม มีการใช้จังหวะซ้ำไปซ้ำมา สามารถเห็นได้จากแนวทางของดนตรี แจ๊สฟังค์ อีเลคโทรนิคป็อป คลี่คลายออกมาเป็นในแบบดนตรี กึ่งเต้นรำ (Dancesfloor) ที่ให้ความรู้สึก สนุกสนาน ศัพท์คำว่า เอซิด แจ๊ส มีการใช้ปรากฏขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรกเมื่อปี ค.ศ.1988 โดยเป็นชื่อของต้นสังกัดค่ายเพลงสัญชาติอเมริกันแห่งหนึ่ง นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นชื่ออัลบั้มรวมเพลงของต้นสังกัดบางแห่งในอังกฤษ ที่ทยอยนำงานเพลงเก่าในแนว “แจ๊ส-ฟังค์” ซึ่งเรียกว่า “แรร์ กรู้ฟ” (Rare Groove) จากยุคทศวรรษ 1970s..ออกมาจำหน่ายอีกด้วยเช่นกัน

ศิลปินแนว แอซิด แจ๊ส (Acid Jazz) เกิดขึ้นเป็นจำนวนมากในยุคปลายทศวรรษ 1980s ถึงต้นทศวรรษ 1990s โดยเฉพาะที่ อังกฤษ จะมีวงดนตรีแนวนี้เกิดขึ้นมากเป็นพิเศษ บางส่วนเป็นวงที่เน้นการบรรเลงสดอาทิเช่น สเตอริโอ เอ็มซี’ส (Stereo MC’s), เจมส์ เทย์เลอร์ ควอร์เตด (James Taylor Qaurtet), เดอะ แบรนด์ นิว เฮฟวีส์ (Brand New Heavies), กรู้ฟ คอลเลคทีฟ (Groove Collective), แจมิโรไควร์ (Jamiroquai), กอลลิอาโน (Galliano) และ เมเดสกี, มาร์ติน แอนด์ วูด (Medeski, Martin & Wood),โซล ทู โซล (Soul II Soul) ครับ
