Prince. Music legend. Icon.
An innovator in music and style, he lived a career spanning 40 years encompassing genres of pop, rock, synth, funk, and r&b. Composing the sound of a generation, writing for other artists, producing, and yielding 19 top ten songs, Prince left his mark in history as a musical genius, energetic performer, cultural icon and humanitarian.
While Prince’s music captivated the hearts of many people, his contribution to the world included compassion for all beings as Prince was an animal advocate and vegetarian. On his 1996 album, The Truth, he released a track named “Animal Kingdom” in which the lyrics say he doesn’t eat red meat, fish, or blue cheese. In an interview the next year he told the Vegetarian Times he and his then wife were, \"Vegans, both of us.”
He did a lot for animals, always profiling a limitless wardrobe, while opting out of leather and fur. He spread awareness to others by including in the linear notes of his 1999 album, Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic, information about the cruelties of the wool industry. “Respect All of God’s Creatures,” he said. He was honored for this by the Humane Society of America, receiving a Genesis Award in the year 2000, which are given out to individuals for work that raises public awareness of animal issues.
Prince supported animal charities, as well as other humanitarian efforts and donated generously to charity throughout his lifetime.
He was also famously quoted as saying, “We need an Animal Rights Day when all slaughterhouses shut down.”
He was a leader and electrifying performer, making a difference in the world through his art & generous spirit for people AND animals. He left a musical legacy with unique style and fearless persona embodying his work which continues to bring joy to millions to this day. Let’s hope one day we collectively celebrate an Animal Rights Day, everyday.
THANK YOU, PRINCE! LOVE ALWAYS, YOU WILL BE MISSED.
