On Saturday, September 5, 2015, hundreds of string players of all ages, levels and genres, came together for #1000strings, a one time only participatory performance of composer John Oswald's composition Spectre. As part of the INTERsection Festival, at Yonge-Dundas Sq, Toronto, the piece was originally commissioned in 1990 for the Kronos Quartet by the Wexler Center, Canada Council for the Arts and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and scored for amplified string quartet with multiple overdubs of Oswald's recordings of the Kronos Quartet. #1000strings was performed for amplified string quartet, live #1000strings, and the overdub track on surround speakers.
This is the world premiere performance recorded on the Music in the Barns iPhone.
