Nat Shilkret was Victor's director of music from the mid 1910s to the mid 1940s. When it Comes to records of the 1920s and 1930s, A vast amount of Victor Scrolls that were popular were Shilkret's. Not many times was it that House Bands actually were popular too. But in the case of Shilkret, He got pretty popular. He had been the bandleader of many groups such as The All Star Orchestra, Shilking Orchestra, Victor's Orchestra, Victor's Symphony Orchestra, and some of his own Orchestras.
Victor's Orchestra was formed in late 1925 at the release of the Victor Scroll, and was first credited in 1926. Almost Entirely recorded on Victor, between 1926 and 1941. Surprisingly they recorded one record on Montgomery ward in 1930. When you have a band with the label name in the title, you really shouldn't expect much variation ever.
This Orchestra of Shilkret's was one of the best, and a lot of the hits were on here, including my favorite one, All Alone Monday in 1927. Without You Sweetheart in 1928, Maybe in 1927, Dawn in 1928, One Kiss in 1929, That and Get Happy in 1930, Hallelujah! in 1937, Thinking Of You in 1928, Softly As In A Morning Sunrise in 1929, I Know That You Know in 1927, Dancing With A Tear In My Eye in 1930, and MANY more.
Horace Heidt was an american pianist, Radio Star, and bandleader from the mid 1920s to the early 1950s. Apart from his many musical feats and his smaller hits, many remember him for being the guy who made the song about the 1939 Worlds Fair. Known as The Dawn Of A New Day which was featured in Bioshock 2 as well. That and his most famous Orchestra's name being one of the first of many more uniquely named ones. Horace Heidt & His Musical Knights. But he also had his Main Orchestra, His Californians, and His Brigadiers.
His Californians was a pseudonym for his Main Orchestra that had started recording back in 1927 on Victor. In 1929 they started using this pseudonym to record on Victor. Recording only 2 sides in total before his Main Orchestra was used for the rest of the time. By the time 1930 came along, they would stop recording, only putting out 19 sides including from His Californians.
They would have no hits.
