Ernie Golden & His Orchestra with Vocal Refrain – Golden Gate, Fox-Trot (Jolson, Meyer, Dreyer & Rose) Diva 1928 (USA)
NOTE: Certainly, the term Golden Gate refers to the straits linking the Bay of San Francisco with the Pacific Ocean. However, when the construction of enormous bridge stretching over the Golden Gate waters was completed in 1937, the name of Golden Gate started to be addressed rather to the bridge than to the straits and today many tourist especially European seem to forget that the term Golden Gate comes from anything else than a bridge. The song, which was a hit in USA in the late 1920s, refers of course to the straits and not the bridge, which had been non-existent then, yet my slideshow presents both.
Ernie GOLDEN - American composer and bandleader, who in the 1920s led in New York City various popular dance orchestras, among which the best known were Ernie Golden and His Hotel McAlpin Orchestra or thes Ernie Golden Pheasant Orchestra. His band also appeared on air in the WMCA programs. Ernie Golden composed several hits, including \"Dancing Shadows\" from 1927 (known for its excellent release by Bix Beiderbecke's band).
