[Reuploaded to fix an audio issue, the previous upload was in mono on accident!] This cover could have gone about 8 different ways... hope you like the direction I chose to take it in! Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of A Settlement in the Red Bluffs (Bolderfall Theme) from Octopath Traveler, featuring Patti Rudisill on violin!
I believe that video game music is a hugely important part of many of our lives. To pay tribute to these fantastic compositions and their composers, I arrange their compositions in various jazz styles! I release video game jazz arrangements on this channel every other Saturday at 12:30 PM EST!
I have fallen in love with Octopath Traveler, as many others have! It's a wonderful homage to the JRPGs of the SNES era like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy that generates so much nostalgia for me. With a JRPG such as this one comes an increased focus on melodic video game music - something I value greatly in video games, and has sadly been missing from many games as of late.
I started with H'aanit myself, and progressed to Ophilia, and then Therion's town of Bolderfall. Up until the point where I first entered Bolderfall, I liked the music, but nothing really stood out as a \"cover-able\" track for me. That all changed when I got to Bolderfall. The swing of the song and the awesome melody really got me interested in covering this song! I hit up my incredible violin-playing friend Patti, and enlisted her help in making this song a sort of Irish Jig / jazz hybrid!
I turned up the tempo of this song quite a bit, which is sort of the opposite of what I do with a lot of the songs that I cover - I usually keep them about the same tempo or slow them down a bit. For this one, however, I wanted to turn it into a danceable groove! I added layers of claps and stomps to create a feeling of other people dancing along to the music (fun fact, there are 8 layers of clapping and stomping, one for each of the travelers in Octopath!)
